A three-dimensionally printed accessory from Eduard for a model of the Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is an auxiliary drop fuel tank of 42 gallons, hung under the fuselage of the aircraft. It is not a model of the aircraft, but a part of its own, which is added to a plastic kit already bought.
A ventral tank is a conspicuous feature of the silhouette of the aircraft and fundamentally changes the look of a finished model. The printed treatment gives a cleaner shape and finer surface details than injection-molded plastic can manage - above all on the narrow sway braces, straps and filler caps. The accessory also suits when a kit does not hold the tank at all and the modeler wants to build the machine in the extended-range configuration.
Alongside printed and resin parts Eduard also offers photo-etched sets, masks and decals. A Zoom set is a smaller, pre-painted selection from a full photo-etched set; a full photo-etched set is more extensive; masks are self-adhesive templates for the glazing and the wheels; bundle sets join several sets into one package. This product belongs to none of those groups - it is a printed part of its own, which replaces or completes a plastic component of a model.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry. Separate it from the carrier structure with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw, never by breaking it off. Sand the remains of the supports with fine abrasive paper and protect your breathing while sanding. It is glued with super glue; with a tank a gel one is the safer choice - it gives time to line it up symmetrically with the axis of the fuselage. Before painting, go over the surface with a primer; on a smooth printed surface both the clear coat and the decals hold better.
The accessory is intended for a plastic kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
