About product

SPACE decals for the early version F4F-3 Wildcat in 1:48

The Eduard SPACE set replaces patient painting of instruments with sculptural color items on decal backing paper. They are printed in 3D, have real relief and come with the color from the factory, so once fitted onto plastic they pass for an equipped cockpit. In scope it is a targeted interior add-on, not a complete rebuild of the model, and that is exactly why the work goes quickly.

Where it goes on the model

All the parts are aimed at the pilot's cockpit, above all at the instrument panel and the side panels. On the Wildcat that shows at first glance: the aircraft has a high-set cockpit with a good view, so the interior stays visible even once the canopy is on. The add-on puts no external items onto the model and works exclusively inside the fuselage.

The real subject

The F4F-3 was the early production version of the Wildcat carrier fighter with a fixed, non-folding wing and four machine guns. Machines of this sub-version entered service before the later folding-wing variants spread, and they differed in a number of production details. The word early in the name refers to that earlier production state, which the arrangement of the cockpit matches.

Usage tips

Sand the surface under the item flat and degrease it, or a relief part will not seat down. The engraved instrument rings on the plastic tend to be in the way; level them with fine abrasive. With a damp sponge and a drop of dish soap moisten only the backing paper, lift the item off with tweezers and fix it with white PVA glue; it has no adhesive layer of its own. The manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue, and do not use a decal softener, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. Afterward it is enough to bring the interior out with a dark wash along the edges and to unify it with a very light matte clear coat.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building carrier fighters in 1:48
  • those who want a finished look to the instruments with no brushwork
  • builders who do not get on with handling small photo-etched parts
  • anyone interested in a quick and clean interior with sculptural depth

This is an add-on to a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It refers to the early production shape of the F4F-3, which the cockpit equipment handled by this set matches.

Not quite. The whole part is not immersed in water; with a damp sponge you moisten only the backing paper, then lift the item off with tweezers and glue it on with white PVA glue.

Yes, it is a good idea to sand the base flat and degrease it, so that a relief part seats down across its whole face.

It does not; it is purely a detail add-on for a kit, which has to be obtained separately.
