Colored harness belts for the carrier-borne Grumman F6F Hellcat fighter in 1:48 scale, made as three-dimensional decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was created with a single brief: to beat the Japanese Zero in everything except agility in a slow turn. A radial Pratt and Whitney R-2800 of over two thousand horsepower, a robust structure and armor made it the tool with which the American carrier squadrons gradually took over the airspace above the central Pacific from the middle of 1943. In less than two years the raids from aircraft carriers practically exhausted the Japanese reserves of experienced pilots.
The straps are rendered on a carrier plate as a raised, pre-colored whole. It is therefore not a flat print but a layer with a thickness of its own, which has edges and a shadow. The fittings and buckles are completed by steel photo-etched parts, so the clasps look metallic and take bending into the final position.
Finish and spray the seat first; the belts are laid on only onto a finished surface. Release the element with a brief soak, slide it into place and draw the excess water off. It pays to give the straps a slight bend, as though the crew had left them hanging freely over the edge of the shell. Finally unify the sheen with a matte clear coat.
A solution for a builder who wants credible belts in an open cabin without assembling them from small metal strips. It saves time above all where painting the straps by hand would take more work than the whole rest of the cabin, and the result is even across a series of models built one after another. The kit of the aircraft is not included in the package.
