Eduard 1:48 FM-1 Wildcat pilot seat with belts PRINT is a 3D printed resin add-on for the cockpit of an FM-1 model in 1:48 scale. It is a detail set, not an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
In an open cockpit the pilot's seat is the first thing that catches the viewer's eye. The add-on from the Czech manufacturer Eduard handles it by 3D printing in resin, so the shell can be thin-walled and the harness belts are printed together with the seat, draped over the shell the way they hung in the real aircraft. That does away with the most laborious part of the work on a cockpit, that is shaping belts out of foil or photo-etched sheet. The set is fitted into a plastic model of the FM-1 Wildcat in 1:48 scale under construction and is not an aircraft model in its own right.
The FM-1 Wildcat is the licensed version of the Grumman F4F-4 carrier fighter, which the Eastern Aircraft division of the General Motors group built during the war. The cockpit of the Wildcat is fairly cramped, with a high-set seat and a good view over the short nose, which helped pilots a great deal when landing on the deck of an escort carrier. Precisely because the cockpit is often built open on models, the seat is among the most rewarding places for an improvement.
Wash the part with lukewarm water and detergent and let it dry through. Separate it from the support structure with a sharp cut and clean the cut face up. Fit it with super glue. The best result comes from painting away from the model, spraying the shell with an airbrush, finishing the belts with a brush and blending the whole with a fine wash. Metal buckles can simply be suggested with the tip of a brush in a metal shade. Only then set the painted seat into the cockpit.
