The whole interior of the cockpit in one package and in 3D printing technology, which manages thin sections, tiny levers and structures that cannot get into an injection mold. The set is meant for a model of the FM-1 Wildcat in 1:48 scale and replaces its original cockpit equipment. It is not an aircraft model but a detailed fitting out for one.
The Wildcat has a small cockpit with a heavily broken-up fuselage structure around it. An environment like that loses the most on a finished model when the walls are empty and the panel is flat. A 3D printed cockpit fills these surfaces with faithful structure and the result will stand even a close look. It pays off on models with the canopy slid back, on dioramas and on models that are photographed, where a macro lens reveals every compromise.
The FM-1 was the version of the Wildcat built under license outside the parent factory, so that production capacity would be freed for newer types. It was based on the proven design of the carrier fighter and against the preceding variant it had fewer machine guns in the wing in exchange for a greater supply of ammunition. The machines served above all on escort carriers, where their short takeoff run and robust undercarriage proved themselves.
Wash the printed parts with lukewarm water and detergent and let them dry through thoroughly. Cut the supports off with a sharp cutter or a fine saw, never break them. Handle the gluing with super glue. Before painting apply a thin coat of primer, so that the paint holds on the smooth surface. Try the assembly dry, because the interior has to pass between the fuselage halves without pressure, otherwise the seams will open up. Protect your breathing when sanding the printed material.
