An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The real subject is the He 111H-8, that is, the form of the twin-engine aircraft adapted for flying through airspace protected by barrage balloons. The model is supplied as a classic plastic kit to be glued and painted. The H series of the He 111 used Jumo 211 V-12 engines, unlike the older P series with DB 601 engines. The H-8 form came about by converting airframes that had already been built: the modified machines carried a large frame in front of the forward part of the aircraft, running from the nose to the wingtips, whose task was to deflect and cut through the steel cables of barrage balloons. The structure was heavy and had great aerodynamic drag, so the machines had to be given a counterweight in the tail and their flying qualities deteriorated. Few were created and their use was brief, but that makes the variant all the more interesting for a modeler, because it is told from an ordinary He 111 at first glance.
The fuselage is built around the glazed nose and the cockpit, so finish and paint the interior before you glue the halves together. Mask the glazing; with glazing as intricate as this, pre-cut masks pay off. Use thin cement for plastic applied by capillary action to a closed joint, sand the seams and gently restore the panel lines. Unify the base with primer, spray gloss varnish under the decals and matte the surface down at the end. Leave the frame on the nose to the very end of the build: it is delicate, exposed and easily damaged during handling, so carry the model by the fuselage and put the finished piece in a display case.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
