About product

He 162 Salamander armament and detail set in 1:48 scale

This item is not an aircraft kit but an accessory to a model you have already bought. The Polish brand MASTER specializes in parts turned from metal on precision lathes, and the components of this set are exactly that. According to the name it contains the barrel tips of the MG 151 cannons, the nose gear position indicator and a pitot tube.

Why a metal muzzle rather than a plastic one

Injection-molded plastic always gives a solid barrel and tube, usually with a mold parting line along the whole length. A turned metal part, by contrast, has a real bore, so the muzzle of the weapon looks like an open barrel even from close up and in a photograph. The wall is symmetrical around the axis, the part is straight, and when the finished model is handled it does not snap off as easily as a thin plastic stub. On the nose gear indicator, the slim rod in front of the cockpit, the difference is even more marked, since the plastic version tends to be thicker than it should be in scale.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut off the plastic original with a sharp scalpel or a file and drill a hole of the matching diameter at the mounting point, ideally with a micro drill in a pin vise. Glue the metal part with cyanoacrylate or two-part epoxy, since ordinary plastic cement does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and use a primer made for metal, otherwise the paint will flake off. The cannon muzzle can also be left in bare metal and only slightly darkened with a blackening solution, which looks more convincing than black paint. Install the set at the very end of the build, after the clear coat and the decals.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want to replace the plastic cannon muzzles on the He 162 with metal ones that have a bore
  • Builders bothered by a mold parting line on thin cylindrical parts
  • Competition builds, where detail is judged from close up
  • Anyone who has already snapped a plastic pitot tube

This is an accessory, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of small metal parts that replace the plastic originals on a He 162 kit in 1:48 scale that you have already bought.

Cyanoacrylate or two-part epoxy. Ordinary plastic cement will not join metal, because it has nothing to melt.

You do not. A cannon muzzle looks good in bare metal; it is enough to polish it and darken it with a blackening solution. If you do paint, degrease the surface and use a primer for metal.

The set includes the cannon muzzles, the nose gear indicator and a pitot tube; the exact number of pieces is stated on the packaging.
