Hedgerow cutter for the M10 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler is an accessory that fits the improvised blade from the fighting in the Normandy bocage onto the nose of the tank destroyer.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory set for the model of the American M10 tank destroyer in 1:48 scale. It adds an improvised hedgerow cutter to the nose of the vehicle, one of the most conspicuous field fittings on Allied vehicles in 1944. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and is not a model in its own right.
The Normandy countryside is divided up by dense hedges on high earth banks. Vehicles could not get through them without lifting the nose and exposing the thinly armored belly. The answer was steel prongs welded to the nose, which cut through the bank and let the vehicle drive on. The improvisation came straight from the units and was fitted to a wide range of vehicles, tank destroyers included.
The cutter is a working fitting and it should look worn. Mount it firmly, because it sticks out beyond the outline of the model and is easily knocked; cure the joint properly and protect it during further handling. Leave the tips and the leading edges worn through to bare metal, add light scratches, and work a little soil, grass and small leaf debris in between the prongs. Leave the rest of the vehicle in its usual shade, because the fitting itself was made in the field and is often a different color.
This is an accessory, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
