MH models painting masks intended for spraying the tactical markings onto a model of the Heinkel He 111 in the H-3 version, 1:48 scale. This is an accessory to the basic markings and to the national insignia, which are sold separately. The extent of the set is given by the manufacturer on the box. The set is intended for ICM kits.
Tactical markings are the part of the airframe lettering that identifies a particular machine within a unit, usually letters and symbols placed on the sides of the fuselage. For a modeler they are interesting precisely because they turn a general model of a type into a particular aircraft. The sprayed form is more durable than a decal and takes later weathering better.
Masks for letters and narrow symbols are the most demanding discipline of the whole field. The individual elements have thin bridges and small internal areas that are easily deformed in handling or stay stuck to the backing sheet. Lift them with tweezers with blunt jaws, therefore, and never pull them by their narrowest point. Spray perpendicularly, at low pressure and in really thin coats, because with narrow figures even a modest amount of extra paint is enough to flood a line and make the insignia lose its sharpness. Check the inner islands, that is, the closed areas inside letters, once more before spraying: if one of them has not settled, a blind patch will appear once the mask is removed. And take the templates off in the reverse order from the one in which you applied them, from the smallest pieces to the largest.
This is not a kit. The set contains painting masks only; the model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
