A resin add-on set of landing gear wheels for first generation Harrier kits in 1:48. According to the name it covers the GR.1, GR.3, FRS.1 and AV-8A versions. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast with a bulge where they touch the ground, so the model stands convincingly on the surface.
The Hawker Siddeley Harrier was the first combat aircraft in series service able to take off vertically and from a short run thanks to vectored thrust. It flew in the ground attack role and from the decks of ships, and its landing gear differed fundamentally from that of ordinary aircraft: the main wheels sat one behind the other on the fuselage centerline, and stability on the ground came from small outrigger wheels at the wingtips. It is precisely that arrangement that makes the landing gear a prominent feature of a model.
Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap and get the mold release agent off them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the contact faces flat. Because the Harrier stands on wheels along the fuselage centerline, watch that the model does not end up leaning fore and aft once the wheels are on – let the glue dry with the model set on a flat board. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and sanded wet and with your airways protected. Apply a primer before painting, paint the tire a dark gray and add dust in moderation. Hubs got dirty quickly on shipboard and field machines, so a wash into the recesses reads naturally.
This is an add-on set, not a model kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
