HVAR unguided aircraft rockets in 1:48 scale as external stores for a model of the F4U Corsair carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The HVAR is an American unguided aircraft rocket of 127 mm caliber, introduced at the end of the Second World War and used in Korea as well. It was fired against ground targets, ships and fortifications and was carried by a whole range of US Navy machines. For crews it was the most widespread rocket armament of its day, and it appears again and again in photographs of combat aircraft from the Pacific and from Korea.
The Vought F4U Corsair is an American carrier fighter, recognizable by its inverted gull wing. Empty undersides of the wing look clean on a model, but historically it was exactly rockets, or bombs, that belonged to a combat configuration. A row of rockets under the wing changes the silhouette of a model and turns it into a machine on a combat task rather than an aircraft on a transit flight. The parts also tend to be crisper than those from a kit, where a thin fin is at the limit of what a mold can do.
The parts are not polystyrene, ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on them, so use super glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest smooth. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. While fitting them, mark out the spacing: the rockets have to be in the same places on both halves of the wing and at the same angle, otherwise the eye notices it before anything else. The particular procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
For modelers who build the Corsair in a combat configuration and want crisp external stores. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
