This resin set of the Quickboost brand from the Czech manufacturer Aires brings finely cast barrels for the gun armament and a pitot tube for a model of the Soviet Polikarpov I-16 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the coarser and easily damaged plastic parts with a crisper and more accurate casting.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat low-wing fighter monoplane of the 1930s. It was among the first production fighters with a retractable landing gear and was powered by a radial engine. It made its mark in combat in the Spanish Civil War and in the opening months of the fighting on the Eastern Front, where it formed the backbone of the Soviet fighter force.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that any mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond thin parts such as the pitot tube with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) only at the end of the build, so that they do not snap off. Try the fit dry before painting.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
