The Il-2M3 is the late two-seat form of the Shturmovik, in which a rear gunner's station appeared behind the pilot. The glazing was thereby drawn out into a long tunnel made up of fixed panes, a sliding section and a rotating cover over the machine gun. For a modeler that means the most frames you can meet on a single-engine machine in 1:48.
This is where a masking set pays off most. Cutting that many narrow strips by hand is two hours' work and one crooked cut is enough for the result to come out asymmetrical. Pre-cut shapes shorten this part of the build to twenty or thirty minutes and, above all, guarantee that the left and the right side will be the same.
Who it is intended for. A modeler setting about Soviet equipment of the Eastern Front who wants to have the ground-attack aircraft finished in a reasonable time. It will also serve well anyone who has so far masked only simple fighters and wants to try on a more complex shape how much work a stencil saves.
Contents. Twice the area of glazing is covered compared with a single-seat aircraft, and that from both faces. Two sets of insignia stencils make it possible to spray the stars with an outline.
Handling the long pieces. The narrowest strips measure barely a millimeter and stretch while being lifted from the backing. Raise them with the tip of a scalpel at both ends at once and transfer them with flat tweezers, not pointed ones: point pressure dents the film and the mark stays visible even after spraying.
