Pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks for a model of the Ilyushin Il-4 in 1:48 scale. The package contains masks only - no plastic parts, no decals and no photo-etched parts. The set is an accessory to a kit you have already bought and its cut corresponds to the glazing of the Xuntong Model kit.
The Il-4 was a Soviet twin-engined long-range bomber which in its design followed on from the older DB-3 type and went through a whole range of modifications of the airframe and the equipment during production. It was powered by M-88B radial engines, the nose was glazed and served the navigator, and the defensive armament was complemented by a dorsal gun position. The type was one of the most numerously built Soviet bombers of its day and was used for operations over great distances.
Most models are spoiled when the masks are taken off, not when they are stuck on. Work patiently therefore: lift the corner of the template with the tip of a scalpel, take hold of it with tweezers and draw it off slowly, at an angle to the surface and away from the freshly painted frame. If you jerk the mask straight upward, there is a risk that a thin strip of paint will go with it. The ideal moment is after the paint has dried but before several coats of varnish have built up on the model, which literally cement the mask down. If a residue of adhesive is left on the glazing after all, wipe it away with a cotton bud moistened with water, not with spirit or thinner.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
