A detail accessory set from Aires in 1:48 scale for plastic models of the Swedish JAS-39C Gripen fighter. It is not an airplane model but a resin replacement for the exhaust nozzle of the engine in the closed position, corresponding to a machine standing on the ground or at low thrust. The set replaces the simplified plastic part from the base kit with a faithfully cast nozzle with fine internal as well as external detail.
A resin casting captures the rings, the petals and the texture of the nozzle far more accurately than injection-molded plastic and markedly increases the realism of the rear of the model, the area that draws attention. The closed position of the nozzle corresponds to the typical look of a machine after landing.
The JAS-39 Gripen is a single-engine multirole fighter of Swedish manufacture with a delta wing and canards. The JAS-39C version is the export form meeting NATO standards, among other things with the ability to refuel in flight. The type serves with the Swedish Air Force and with a number of other operators.
First wash the resin parts to remove mold release residue and separate them carefully from the casting blocks. Bond with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); protect your airways when sanding resin. Apply a primer before painting, and the metallic shades of the nozzle come out well with darker tones and fine weathering.
