The Ju 87 is a German dive bomber of the Second World War, a machine with a crew of two and an unmistakable silhouette: a cranked wing, an angular fuselage and fixed landing gear in aerodynamic fairings. The B version was among the early production forms and was used in the first years of the war. The pilot and the rear gunner sit one behind the other under a long glasshouse, so the cabin is visible along its whole length on a model.
Injection-molded plastic has its limits. Thin sheets, brackets, grilles, frames or belt buckles have to be simplified in it, because otherwise they could neither be made nor pulled from the mold. Etched metal, by contrast, is as thin as real sheet, so it refines precisely those features on the model. The 1:48 scale is rewarding for photo-etch: the parts are no longer so tiny that they cannot be handled, and yet the difference is clearly visible on the finished model.
The parts are held in the fret by thin tabs. Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by twisting, and sand the remnant of the tab away. Make the bends over a straight edge, best of all in a bending tool or between two blades, so that they come out sharp. Photo-etch is bonded with super glue or two-part epoxy; polystyrene cement will not hold on metal. Degrease the parts before painting and lay a primer over them. Fit the parts meant for the cabin before you close up the fuselage, because after that you cannot get inside.
The set is for modelers who are building the Ju 87B-1 in 1:48 scale and want parts of the correct scale thickness on the model. The kit, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
