An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engine Junkers Ju 88 aircraft in the A-8 version in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The qualifier in the name refers to the characteristic equipment of this version, that is, the sizeable structure carried ahead of the nose and the leading edges of the wing. The model is intended for gluing and painting, and the contents of the package should be checked on the box.
The Junkers Ju 88 was a twin-engine all-metal aircraft which during the Second World War was built in an exceptional number of versions and carried out very varied tasks. The A-8 version was among the technically most unusual: at the front it carried a massive frame whose task was to catch and cut the cables of barrage balloons, used as a passive protection of ground targets. The structure increased drag and worsened the flying qualities, so it was a solution deployed only to a limited extent. For a modeler it is an interesting detour from the ordinary versions, and in a display case the model cannot be mistaken for anything else.
The glazed nose is the main theme of the build. Finish and paint the interior space before the fuselage is closed up, and mask the clear parts so that the frames are sharp; pre-cut masks or narrow masking tape suit the job. Glue the frame ahead of the aircraft on only after the main surfaces have been painted, otherwise it is hard to get between its elements with a brush or an airbrush, and it is easily snapped off while handling the model. Check the engine nacelles dry, and seams on rounded surfaces are better fine-tuned with sanding paper wet. After the decals, even the surface out with a varnish and keep the patina restrained, so that it does not overwhelm the intricate shape.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
