This photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is meant for adding detail to a model of the Junkers Ju 188 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not an aircraft model: the package holds a photo-etched sheet with parts that replace or supplement details from the plastic kit. Without the model itself the set cannot be used.
A photo-etched sheet is an order of magnitude thinner than any injection-molded plastic part. That is its main advantage everywhere the subject should be thin: instrument panels, consoles, levers, meshes, seat belts or covers. Where a part has volume, photo-etch does not help; it is flat and the volume has to come from a bend or be added from plastic. The set therefore raises the detail selectively and does not replace the whole interior of the kit.
Cut the parts off on a hard surface with a scalpel or a chisel; never break them out with your fingers. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool, or at least between two blades, always along the etched groove. Larger parts that have to hold a curved shape can be briefly annealed over a flame before bending, which softens the material. They are glued with super glue in gel form or with two-part epoxy; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Degrease the sheet before painting and use a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal.
The package contains etched parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
