A Junkers Ju 88 decal sheet in the A-4, D-1 and G-6 versions in 1:48 scale

A sheet of waterslide decals from the manufacturer Xtradecal for models of the twin-engined Junkers Ju 88 in 1:48 scale. The name takes in three different versions, that is the bomber, the reconnaissance and the night fighter branches of development. The product is printed markings for finishing a model off, not a kit.

The real subject

The Ju 88 was among the most versatile twin-engined aircraft of its day, and its individual versions differ from one another so much that they cannot be interchanged. The A-4 version was a bomber with increased wingspan and Jumo 211 engines. The D-1 version grew out of the bomber branch and was adapted for long-range reconnaissance with photographic equipment and an increased fuel capacity. The G-6 version represented a night fighter with BMW 801 radial engines, a changed nose without the glazed front and with the aerial array of an onboard radar. The differences in the shape of the nose and the engine nacelles are plainly visible on a model.

Application tips

Because the sheet covers more than one version, go through the markings before building and work out what belongs on your model and what does not. It helps to copy the sheet and cut the parts out as paper templates, which lets you check both position and size before you soak a decal. Soak the decals themselves one at a time and work with clean water, because remains of adhesive from previous pieces leave matte stains on the surface.
