This is a modeling cutting mat from the Japanese brand Hasegawa, from its line of tools and finishing aids. The 400 x 150 mm format is deliberately narrow and long, so it fits in front of a monitor, on the edge of a work table or into a drawer, while still offering enough room for working with ordinary sprues of parts, plastic strip or photo-etched sheets. The mat is made of PVC and has machine-rounded edges, which do not catch on a sleeve or on the material and reduce the risk of a corner chipping off. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model but equipment for the modeling bench.
For modelers who build at an ordinary table and need a simple working field that is easy to clear away, and for those whose space is limited and who do not want a large A2-format mat. Builders of aircraft, military equipment and ships in the small scales, where the work is mainly with tiny parts, will appreciate it. It also suits paper models and other fine handwork.
