The 1:48 K5Y Willow wheels and painting masks are a resin add-on set in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Aires that replaces the wheels of the model and adds masks for painting them.

This is not an aircraft model but an accessory to one. The set replaces the wheels from a plastic kit with resin castings and adds pre-cut masks that separate the hub from the tire during painting. The combination of wheel plus mask is practical because the transition between the rubber and the hub is exactly what tends to come out smeared on models. The manufacturer has many similar sets and they are told apart by the exact set designation and by the type of aircraft, so go by that when choosing.
Plastic wheels have their parting seam running right across the tread, so it has to be laboriously sanded away and the pattern is destroyed in the process. A resin wheel is cast in one piece, the seam does not arise and the pattern stays crisp. The castings also tend to come with a flat spot where the wheel meets the ground, which on a model creates the impression that the aircraft really stands on the ground under its own weight rather than merely touching it. On a biplane trainer with fixed landing gear the wheel is a prominent, well visible element, because it is not hidden in any bay.
Separate the wheel from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw; the block tends to sit on the flattened contact area, so the remainder gets sanded away exactly where it would be trued up anyway. Wash the parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent from the mold disappears. Spray the hub first, then stick the mask onto the hub and spray the tire, or the other way round according to the enclosed order. Press the mask down all around, otherwise paint will creep under it. Do not make the tire black, because a dark gray tone looks far more believable in scale. The wheels are glued to the landing gear with cyanoacrylate glue, since ordinary cement for plastic will not join resin. Sand with protection for your breathing.
The set is a resin accessory with masks, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
