1:48 Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for spraying the control surfaces of this twin-engine machine. It is an accessory for painting, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cut self-adhesive masks for the control surfaces of a model of the Japanese twin-engine heavy fighter Kawasaki Ki-45 in 1:48 scale. The set serves to spray the fine shading that imitates the ribbed structure of fabric covering on the ailerons and the rudder. The model and the paints are not included.
The Ki-45 Toryu was a two-seat twin-engine aircraft of the Japanese Army Air Force with two radial engines in nacelles on the wing. Structurally it was an all-metal machine, but its rudder and ailerons stayed fabric-covered, so the ribbing showed on them more markedly than on the smooth duralumin skin of the fuselage.
A twin-engine model has more surfaces and they are larger than on a single-engine fighter, so it pays to work in sections rather than applying the whole sheet at once. The tightness of the edge is crucial: once a mask is applied, run a blunt tool over it from the center to the edges so that no air is left underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats and from a distance. A heavy coat builds up under the edge of a mask and leaves a step you can feel once it is lifted, which is distracting on a small area. On larger parts check whether the edge of a mask has lifted because of the curvature of the surface and press it down again if needed.
The package holds masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
