Trainers often go unnoticed at shows, yet they offer one advantage: they tend to be opened up regularly for maintenance, so an exposed model is entirely believable on them. This Black Dog set works up precisely the instrument areas and is fitted into a machine under construction in 1:48 scale.
The Kawasaki T-4 is a Japanese two-seat subsonic trainer that replaced older training types with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and serves for advanced training as well as liaison flights. The high-mounted wing, the pair of smaller engines and the tandem cockpit are characteristic of it. An aerobatic team also uses it in a striking color scheme, which makes it a rewarding subject.
Pick out which panel you really will open, because several hinged covers at once tend to fragment a model rather than help it. Drill the opening at the corners first, then join them with a cut and true the edge up. Paint the assemblies separately, dry-fit them and only then glue them in. Inside it is worth leaving the base dark, so that the space gains depth to the eye.
The trainer and the materials for finishing it are not part of this item.
