Keith William Truscott was an Australian fighter pilot of the Second World War. At home he was known before the war as an Australian rules football player; he joined the air force at the beginning of the war and started his combat career over Europe with a squadron flying Spitfires. After returning to Australia he carried on with a unit armed with American Kittyhawk fighters and served in the defense of northern Australia and New Guinea. He died in a flying accident in 1943. He is among the best-known Australian fighter pilots, and his machines are a rewarding subject precisely because they take in two entirely different aircraft in two different theaters and color schemes.
Apply the decals onto a gloss base only - on matte clear, air is trapped beneath them and silvering appears, which can then be removed only by taking the decal off. The order is therefore: paint, gloss clear, decals, decal softener and only at the end matte or semi-matte clear over the whole model. Personal emblems and lettering tend to be small and intricate; take them out of the water once they come free, slide them into place, draw off the excess water and press them down with a soft brush. On engraved lines and riveting a decal softener helps, pulling the decal down into the surface.
