A Dead Design masking set for the last fighter biplane of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, the Kawasaki Ki-10, in 1:48 scale. The In and Out suffix designates the rendition that reckons with masking from the outer as well as the inner side of the glazed surfaces.
The Ki-10, designated Perry by the Allies, was a fighter biplane with a liquid-cooled engine, an open cockpit and fixed landing gear. In its day it was among the exceptionally agile machines and it was committed above all over China and Manchuria. By the moment modern monoplane fighters stood against it, however, its era had long been ending.
An open cockpit means that what is mainly masked is the small windscreen, and that is visible from both sides at once. Paint pulled over onto its inner surface is more conspicuous on a finished model than anywhere else, because nothing covers it. The rendition for both sides therefore gives two sets of boundaries instead of one.
Degrease the windscreen, seat the mask and press it down around the perimeter of the frame. Go with the interior shade first and only then with the upper color. On such a small area apply the paint really thinly, otherwise a step appears on the edge that is visible against the light on a clear part.
