The set contains self-adhesive pre-cut painting masks for a model of the F-35A in 1:48 scale. They serve to make the canopy frames and the other glazed parts come out sharp and even after spraying, without the laborious cutting of tape by hand.
These are neither a model nor decals but an aid for painting. The model and paints have to be obtained separately.
On a model of an aircraft the glazing is the first place the eye falls. An uneven paint edge or a shade that has crept underneath spoils even an otherwise nicely built model. Pre-cut masks are shaped to the particular parts, so measuring and cutting are no longer needed. For a modeler who paints with an airbrush that means a saving of time and a substantially cleaner result.
The F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat, single-engine fifth-generation aircraft in the form intended for conventional takeoff and landing from a concrete runway. It differs from the other versions of the family in having neither a lift fan nor the equipment for operation from a ship deck. The shaping of the canopy matches the emphasis on a low radar signature, which on a model shows as a pronounced and clearly visible area of glazing.
First wash and degrease the part; on a greasy surface a mask does not hold. Lift the masks out with a sharp point, not with a fingernail. Once stuck on, press the mask down with a soft wooden stick, above all around the edge. Apply the paint in thin coats, as a thick coat will leave a step when removed. Take the mask off while the paint is not yet fully cured, slowly and at a sharp angle.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
