A detailed add-on engine set for the American twin-engine fighter Lockheed P-38F/G Lightning in 1:48 scale. The set is made by direct 3D printing in resin and represents the left Allison V12 engine unit together with its accessories. It replaces the simplified plastic and makes a build with an open engine nacelle possible. It is not a model of the aircraft in its own right but an upgrade for a kit.
An exposed Lightning engine is a striking subject in a diorama and in the display case alike. 3D printing captures the fine structure of the block, the drives and the hoses that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. The left unit complements the right engine offered separately, for a fully equipped model.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts and separate them from the print supports. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and do the sanding with respiratory protection. Paint the engine in shades of metal and gray, and lift the details with a dry brush and a wash for a three-dimensional look.
An add-on set in resin. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
