An add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale that replaces the simplified cockpit of a plastic kit of the twin-boom P-38G Lightning fighter with detailed resin castings. The cockpit tends to be the most closely examined place on an aircraft model, because it is visible through the glazing, and a resin casting can deliver detail there that an injection mold cannot manage. It is not a kit of the aircraft; the model itself has to be bought separately.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter with a twin-boom layout and a central nacelle, in the front of which the pilot sat. The G version is among the early production forms with revised Allison engines. The cockpit of the Lightning was fairly cramped and full of instruments, because the pilot managed two engines. On a model that shows in the number of small details on the side walls and on the instrument panel.
Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, do not break them, and level the surface on abrasive paper. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate. Always dry-fit the cockpit, as material usually has to be taken off the inside of the fuselage halves so that they will close. Start the painting with the base interior color, carry on with a wash into the recesses and a fine dry brush, and then pick out the small levers and knobs with a single-hair brush.
This is an add-on set, not a kit of a model. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
