An accessory set of the SPACE series from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, meant for a model of the high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft Lockheed U-2S in 1:48 scale. The series combines 3D printed decals, which go straight onto the plastic parts of the cabin, with pre-painted photo-etched belts. A modeler thus gets legible instruments and panels without having to paint every dial. The kit is not included.
The U-2 is a single-seat aircraft with an exceptionally long wing, which flies at altitudes out of reach of ordinary types. The U-2S version came about by re-engining the U-2R airframe with a more modern powerplant, and to this day it is among the most distinctive reconnaissance machines in the world. The pilot sits in a pressure suit, the landing is directed from a vehicle driving along the runway and the machine rests on jettisonable supports under the wings. The cabin is therefore full of specific elements that differ from those of classic fighters.
Leave the cabin of the U-2S in a dark gray tone, over which the 3D decals will stand out. Degrease the surface before applying them and let it be perfectly dry. Settle the panels one after another from the largest to the smallest, so that the edges can be lined up against each other. Leave the dials glossy and even the rest out with a flat varnish, or pick the edges out gently with a dry brush and a light color.
