Brengun 1:48 Luftwaffe wheel chocks – two types (a photo-etched accessory)

This set from the Czech maker Brengun is not a model but a photo-etched detail accessory for 1:48 scale. It holds wheel chocks in two types of design, of the kind the Luftwaffe used to secure parked aircraft against rolling. The parts are of thin brass sheet; in the larger 1:48 scale they stand out even better than in the small scales.

Use

• Nip the chocks from the fret, fold them on the edge of a ruler or in a photo-etch bending tool and glue them into shape.
• Fix the joints with a drop of super glue (cyanoacrylate).
• Place them under the main landing gear wheels of a model on a stand or in a diorama.
• Neither wheels nor a model are included in the package — this is only an accessory.

Painting tips

Paint the chocks in a wood or metal shade according to the real thing and bring them out with a dark wash into the edges and the joints. In the larger 1:48 scale the texture of the surface stands out, so it pays to add fine rubbing and a hint of dust with dry pigments as well, so that the accessory blends optically into the airfield surface and does not look like a clean new component.
