The Hauler M-8 Greyhound 1:48 photo-etched detail set refines the build of the American armored car. It is not a model but an accessory cut for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of parts made of photo-etched sheet from the Czech maker Hauler for building the American M8 Greyhound armored car in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit in its own right or a finished model but an accessory that replaces and extends the detail of the basic Tamiya plastic kit. Photo-etch manages items that injection-molded plastic can never have in a realistic thickness for technological reasons.
The M8 Greyhound was an American wheeled armored car with six-wheel drive, taken into service in 1943. It served mainly for reconnaissance and signals, and its main armament was a 37 mm gun in an open turret. It was committed in Western Europe, in the Mediterranean and in the Pacific, and after the war it stayed in the inventory of a number of armies for a long time. The name Greyhound caught on from British usage.
Photo-etched sheet has a thickness in tenths of a millimeter, so brackets, eyes, grab handles or thin strips look considerably more convincing once glued on than their molded plastic counterparts. Separate the parts with a scalpel or sharp scissors against a hard surface and level the fret tab remnants with a fine file. Run the bends in a bender or between two razor blades, always along the etched groove. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and bond with super glue applied on the tip of a piece of wire. Paint does not hold on smooth metal by itself, so a primer is necessary.
This is an accessory for a build, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
