This item is a resin accessory for a model of the Italian Macchi Mc.202 fighter in 1:48 scale, not a kit. It replaces the main gear wheels with castings of the early type and adds masks that make it easier to separate the paint of the tire from the hub. Cast wheels have the advantage over plastic parts that they tend to be made as weighted tires, so the model stands on the ground convincingly and does not look as though it were floating.
The Macchi Mc.202 Folgore was an Italian single-seat fighter of the Second World War, created by fitting a liquid-cooled V engine into the airframe of an older type that had a radial. The result was a slim aircraft with markedly better flying qualities. The gear wheels differed during production and service in the pattern of the hub and of the tire, and that is exactly why an early and a later type are distinguished. For the modeler it is a detail worth watching, because a wheel sits at eye level on a finished model.
Wash the castings in warm soapy water, cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the mark it leaves wet, ideally so that it falls into the contact patch of the tire. The wheel then only has to be sprayed with a dark base color, the mask stuck onto the hub and the hub oversprayed with a metal shade or a covering color. Take the mask off while the paint has only just dried rather than cured, because the edge then stays sharp. The tire should not be black: a lighter dark gray with fine dusting looks more natural in 1:48 scale. Glue the wheel onto the model with super glue only after painting, and do not forget to set it so that the flat spot sits level on the surface.
