The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Check the contents of the package before you buy; check as well whether the package makes it possible to build both versions or whether you have to decide on one.
The Ki-79 was an advanced trainer whose design came from the proven Ki-27 fighter and took over its layout, that is, a low wing, fixed landing gear and a radial engine. Compared with its fighter predecessor it received a less powerful engine and simplified equipment, because it was to serve for training pilots rather than for combat. It was built in a single-seat and a two-seat form: the single-seat version served for the advanced training of pilots flying solo, while the two-seat one let an instructor intervene. It was built in Manchuria and used during the closing phase of the Second World War, after which a smaller number went on flying in Southeast Asia.
Put the parts together dry before gluing and check the fit of the fuselage halves and the wing. The framing of the glazing is uneven on trainers, so masking tape or a ready-made masking set pays off. Leave the fixed landing gear until the end of the build, so that it does not break off during handling. Trainers often carried striking color schemes with prominent areas meant to raise visibility, so plan the order of the coats in advance and spray light shades over a white base. A gloss coat comes before the decals and a matte one after them. Keep the weathering restrained, as trainers tended to be well kept.
