A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the Italian Macchi C.205 Veltro fighter in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes painting the cockpit glazing and other small areas cleanly much easier. The masks are stuck straight onto the parts, so the framing of the glazing gets crisp, straight edges without laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this kind also tend to include circular masks for the wheel discs, which make separating the tire from the rim easier.
The Macchi C.205 Veltro was an Italian fighter from the Second World War powered by a strong V engine derived from a German design. It ranked among the best Italian fighters of its day and matched its contemporary opponents in speed and armament alike. Its slender framed canopy is a typical place where masks make the work faster and more accurate.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully, so that paint cannot run underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat hardens completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
