An injection-molded plastic kit of an early variant of the best-known German fighter of the Second World War. The Ukrainian maker Modelsvit has long devoted itself to less common subjects and to the early versions of famous types that the big manufacturers pass over. Its kits are made by short-run technology and offer fine surface engraving and rich detail.
The Bf 109 C was one of the first production variants of the fighter designed by Willy Messerschmitt. It differed from the later versions in its V12 Junkers Jumo 210 engine with direct fuel injection and in its slim nose with the radiator under the engine. Compared with the A and B variants the C version brought heavier armament and served with the Luftwaffe in the second half of the 1930s; a small number of early machines also saw combat in the Spanish Civil War. The C-3 sub-variant differed from the basic version in its armament. The early 109s are today among the most interesting forms of the type for collectors.
With short-run kits it is advisable to dry-fit every part first, clean up the mold seams and build in stages. Unify the surface with a primer before painting; the period prewar Luftwaffe shades are best applied with an airbrush. A gloss coat belongs under the decals, and once they have settled with a decal softener, seal the whole model with a semi-matte coat. A dark wash brings out the fine engraving nicely.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
