An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 fighter in the Trop/R1 version in 1:48 scale from the maker Hasegawa. It is a limited edition with extra parts for underwing cannon pods (the R1 field conversion) and a tropical dust filter. The package also holds metal parts for the barrels and the intake and decals for several marking options.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109F, nicknamed the Friedrich, was an aerodynamically refined version of the famous German fighter with rounded wingtips and a cleaner nose. The F-4 version had a more powerful engine and better protected fuel tanks. The R1 field conversion added a pair of pods with 20 mm cannons under the wings, which increased firepower at the cost of worse agility; this fit came in useful against bombers. The tropical conversion, Trop, with its dust filter was typical of machines used in North Africa.
Use a thin cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Finish and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage; mask the clear canopy. Fit the metal barrel parts carefully, ideally with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting and lay the paints on with an airbrush. On African schemes you will appreciate sandy weathering, dust effects on the landing gear and restrained wear around the exhausts and the cannon pods.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
