The MiG-19 was a twin-engined fighter with a markedly swept wing and belonged to the first generation of production machines able to reach supersonic speed in level flight. It was built in several versions, among them an interceptor form with a radar in the forward fuselage. The Polish Air Force took the type into service at the end of the 1950s and used it alongside the more widespread machines of the Lim family. MiG-19 models in 1:48 scale do not usually come with a wide range of markings in the box, so a separate sheet noticeably widens the choice.
A decal softener is a liquid that temporarily makes the carrier film supple so it follows the relief of the surface. It is applied with a brush over a decal that has been seated and blotted, and it has to be left to work undisturbed; any stroking with a brush at this stage will damage the motif. Choose the strength of the product to suit the nature of the surface: on smooth areas a weak one is enough, while engraved lines and riveting need a stronger one. If a sheet has lain in storage for a long time, care pays off. Older printing tends to have a more brittle carrier film, which reacts to a strong product by cracking. So always make a test on a marginal or surplus motif that you will not use on the model, and only then choose how to proceed with the main decals. A brittle sheet is helped by a thin layer of clear varnish applied to it before cutting, which strengthens the film.
