This resin set from Quickboost, made by Aires, brings a faithfully cast ejection seat with cast-in seat belts for a model of the Soviet Mikoyan MiG-23 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, which in a single casting replaces both the simplified seat and the separate belts. With the canopy removed, the cockpit gains a markedly more accurate look without any need to add photo-etched parts.
The Mikoyan MiG-23 (NATO reporting name Flogger) was a Soviet single-engine supersonic fighter with a variable-geometry wing, built in large numbers from the end of the 1960s. The wing was set to three positions according to the flight regime, and the aircraft served with the Soviet Air Force and with a number of friendly countries. The pilot sat on a KM-1 ejection seat.
First wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue from the mold. Cut off the casting block with a saw and sand the cut surface with respiratory protection. Bond the seat with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement. The cast belts come into their own once painted and lightly brought out with a wash.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
