A detailing set of photo-etched sheet intended to refine the air intakes of a plastic model of the MiG-25 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, but an aftermarket accessory. On this type the air intakes are large, angular and easy to look into on a model, so coarsely executed plastic and missing internal structure are immediately apparent. The photo-etched parts here replace the thin sheet-metal walls, baffles, grilles and vent elements that cannot be produced in an injection mold. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details. The photo-etched fret is cut for the ICM kit.
The MiG-25 is a Soviet twin-engine aircraft designed for very high speed and ceiling, used in the interceptor and reconnaissance roles. Because of the thermal loading at high speeds its airframe is largely of welded steel. Characteristic are the sizeable side air intakes with adjustable ramps and a large area of internal ducting — visually it is one of the most prominent assemblies of the whole aircraft.
Assemble, sand and paint the intake ducts before you close the fuselage — once it is glued together you can no longer get inside. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers. Make longer straight bends on a photo-etch bending tool, otherwise the sheet will ripple. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, as an excess would flood the fine passages of the grilles. Paint the inside of the duct over a base color and as smoothly as possible, since every unevenness is visible when you look into the intake.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
