A detailing set of photo-etched sheet intended to refine the wheel bays of a plastic model of the MiG-25 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, but an aftermarket accessory. On a model on a stand the landing gear bays are among the places looked into most often, and yet in a kit they tend to be empty or only suggested. The set adds lines, stiffeners, sheet-metal covers and fine elements inside the bays and on the landing gear doors — exactly what injection-molded plastic cannot manage to this extent. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details. The set is intended for the ICM kit.
The MiG-25 is a Soviet twin-engine aircraft designed for high speed and ceiling, deployed in the interceptor and reconnaissance roles. The airframe is largely of welded steel because of the thermal loading. The landing gear is robust, dimensioned for a considerable takeoff weight, and the bays are therefore sizeable and full of technical detail — on a model in 1:48 scale it is a clearly visible area.
Fit out and paint the bays before you close the airframe and attach the landing gear legs — working in them afterwards is difficult. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers. Make the bends on a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin. After painting, a fine accent of the hollows with a flowing paint and a discreet dry brush on the edges help the structure of the bay to stand out.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
