An etched accessory set for a model of the Soviet fighter MiG-3 in 1:48 scale. Metal parts replace spots where a plastic molding is necessarily thicker than reality.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of etched metal parts for building a model of the fighter MiG-3 in 1:48 scale. Etched sheet metal can be made an order of magnitude thinner than injection-molded plastic, so thin, flat features come out at a scale-accurate proportion. Which parts of the model the set addresses and in what order they are fitted is described in the included instructions.
The MiG-3 was a Soviet single-seat fighter from the start of the Second World War. It was designed as a high-altitude aircraft and performed well in that band, but lost agility and speed at low altitude, which put it at a disadvantage in typical frontline combat. Its recognizable feature is the long, slender nose, narrow fuselage, and a cockpit set far back. A significant number of aircraft ended up with air defense units, where high altitude was an advantage, not a burden.
Separate the part with a sharp blade against a hard surface and level the remaining tab with a file or sandpaper. Make the bend against a straight edge along its full length at once, or the sheet will ripple. Degrease the surface before gluing and use cyanoacrylate; modeling cement for polystyrene does not bond metal. Apply a thin primer coat before painting, or paint will not hold on smooth metal and will rub off during handling.
The set is for modelers for whom the contents of the box are no longer enough and who want the finished model to have what plastic cannot include. Expect to use tweezers, a sharp blade and a steady hand.
The package contains only the etched parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
