This set from the brand Quickboost holds resin entry stairs for models of the Mil Mi-8MT and Mi-17 helicopters. It is an accessory for a base kit, not a model of the machine. Stairs at a door are among the small items that immediately lift the impression of scale on a finished model, because a viewer unconsciously compares them with the height of a figure.
Injection-molded plastic can manage thin steps and their mounting only in a coarse rendering, so that the part can be released from the mold at all. A resin casting carries a finer profile and sharper edges. It comes into its own mainly on models built with the doors open and in dioramas where a crew or passengers are boarding the helicopter.
Wash the parts in warm soapy water, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, do not snap them, and level the mating surface on abrasive paper; when sanding resin, protect your airways. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and it pays to offer the part up dry first, so that it sits square to the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting, and after the base shade bring the edges out with a dry brush and scuff the treads lightly.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
