This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for one. The set contains photo-etched metal parts intended for a model of the Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. A bare name with no subtitle is usual in this coded range. The benefit of photo-etch is the same with all these sets, though: a metal part has the thickness that matches the subject, whereas injection-molded plastic has for manufacturing reasons always to be considerably thicker. The difference shows most on edges, grilles, panels and small fittings.
The Mitsubishi A6M was a Japanese carrier fighter from the Second World War period, known by the nickname Zero. The A6M2 version was among the early forms and was marked by very light construction and exceptional range, paid for, however, by weak armor. It is precisely the lightness of the airframe that means thin photo-etched parts tell better on a model than on more robust types.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the folds in a photo-etch bender or between two razor blades. Sand the original molded plastic detail away, so that the photo-etched part seats flush. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin in minute drops, and on the finest parts gloss decal varnish works well. Degrease bare metal and spray it with a base color. If the set contains pre-painted parts, do not spray over them and do not wash them with solvent. Finally even the interior and the exterior out with a thin wash and bring out the edges.
This is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
