Responsibility details are not available.
Self-adhesive masking templates for the control surfaces of a model of the late versions of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. A shade is sprayed over the masks to bring out the ribbing of the fabric covering on the ailerons, the elevator and the rudder. The set is not a kit and holds no parts of the model.
The A6M5c version was among the late variants of the type, with reinforced armament and added protection for the pilot, while the A6M7 was a conversion for carrying a load under the fuselage with a strengthened structure. Both versions kept the all-metal skinning of their lifting surfaces, while the rudder and the ailerons stayed fabric-covered.
With control surface masks the order of the steps decides everything. First finish the base camouflage and let it cure thoroughly, ideally overnight, or the adhesive of the mask will grip the soft film and tear it away as it is lifted. Only then apply the masks and spray the emphasizing shade, usually a slightly darker or lighter variant of the base color. Once the masks are lifted, the turn comes for a gloss coat compatible with the paint used, then the decals, the weathering and finally a matte coat that brings the whole surface together. Reverse this sequence and the effect disappears under the later layers.
The package holds masking material only. The model and paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
