A resin detail set from Eduard in 1:48 scale, the BRASSIN line. It is not a kit but a Mk.82 aircraft bomb with a retarding tail unit in its late form, intended for realistically arming an aircraft model. The casting has a fine surface and usually comes with photo-etched parts and decal lettering.
The Mk.82 is an American low-drag general-purpose aircraft bomb of a nominal weight of about 500 pounds from the Mk.80 family. The Snakeye retarding tail unit opens into braking surfaces after release and slows the bomb down, which allows a safe drop from low altitude. The late form of the tail unit differs from the early one in the construction of the braking surfaces. Bombs of this type were carried by a range of combat aircraft.
Wash the parts to remove mold release residue, separate the casting blocks and clean up the surfaces with breathing protection. Bond the resin with super glue. The lettering and the colored bands are handled with the decals that are included; the body of the bomb is sprayed in an even shade and the detail brought out with a dark wash.
This is an armament accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
