The LööK range from the Czech company Eduard replaces a flat plastic or decal instrument panel with a three-dimensional, already painted part. On the twin-engine Mosquito that shows at once: the large cockpit with its well-glazed forward section reveals far more of the interior than on a fighter, and a coarse panel from the kit stands out there. The set is usually completed with steel harness belts. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit in 1:48 scale.
The de Havilland Mosquito B Mk. IV is the bomber version of the famous British twin-engine aircraft, whose structure rested on a wooden shell. The bomber form carried no defensive armament. It relied on speed and altitude, because the expectation was that it would simply outrun the fighters. A pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin engines gave the machine performance that made it one of the most versatile types of the Second World War, used as a fast bomber and for reconnaissance duties.
Do not spoil the painted panel by coating it over; just seat it and keep it away from grease from your fingers. The original plastic relief in the kit usually has to be sanded smooth, so that the new part sits without a gap. Bend the photo-etched belts over a sharp edge and let them fall naturally over the seat rather than sticking out into space. Bond with super glue in spots, because any excess would dull the painted surfaces. Because the cockpit of the Mosquito is clearly visible, it pays to finish its surroundings as well: a dark wash into the corners, careful dry-brushing of the edges and finally a matte coat on the surrounding surfaces, so that the panel stands out.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base aircraft model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
