An accessory in 1:48 scale: resin main wheels for a model of the de Havilland Mosquito, completed with a mask for painting. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor a kit, but a replacement for the landing gear parts. The number of parts and the scope of the mask are stated on the box.
Wheels are a detail that the viewer has at eye level and right next to the base. A resin casting is poured in one piece, so the parting seam in the middle of the tread falls away, and with it the most tiresome sanding work; at the same time the tire is usually modeled with the deformation from the weight of the aircraft, which visually settles the model onto the ground. The mask supplied deals with the other half of the problem, the clean transition between the tire and the hub, which is hard to draw freehand with a brush and where on a circular shape every inaccuracy shows.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface wet with respiratory protection. Choose the painting order so that the mask works for you: spray the whole wheel in the hub shade, and once that has cured stick the mask onto the hub and spray the tire over it. Take the mask off soon after it has dried and at an obtuse angle. Watch the orientation of the deformed tread: the wheel is glued with the flattened part downward and parallel to the ground, otherwise the model stands crooked. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the fit with your kit before buying.
