A masking set in 1:48 scale for spraying the Japanese national insignia onto a model of the Nakajima B6N Tenzan carrier-based torpedo bomber. It is not a kit but an accessory: you stick the masks onto a finished paint job, spray the marking and take the masks off. The set is cut for the form without a white outline, that is for the red disc alone with no surround. Because the marking is sprayed, it blends with the finish and does not create the glossy island that a decal often gives away on matte camouflage.
The Nakajima B6N Tenzan was a carrier-based torpedo and attack aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy, the successor to the older B5N type. The B6N1 and B6N2 versions differ chiefly in the power unit - on the later series the original engine was replaced by another radial type, which also showed in the shape of the front of the fuselage. The machine had a crew of three and could carry a torpedo or a bomb load. The Allied code name for this type was Jill.
Stick the masks onto a fully cured, smooth and degreased finish. Over camouflage it pays to lay a thin coat of white or a light base first and only then the red - red shades have poor covering power and over a dark base they darken. Spray at right angles to the mask, in several thin coats; one heavy coat raises the risk of bleed and leaves a step once the mask is off. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch. On the curved areas of the fuselage press it down with a soft tool, so that the edge bears all the way around. At the end go over the model with a clear coat, which evens out the sheen and seals the marking before further weathering.
The package holds only the masking set. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
