A set of the Norden bombsight in 1:48 scale, three pieces in the package, for builders of American bombers of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model of an aircraft but a detail accessory. According to the name there are three pieces of the Norden bombsight in 1:48 scale in the package, so there is enough for several models under way, or it will serve as an element in its own right for a display case or for a diorama scene of ground handling. The bombsight stands in the glazed nose of a bomber right before the eyes, and it is therefore one of the details that are worth replacing on a model.
The Norden was a bombsight of American manufacture which during the Second World War was used by the crews of heavy as well as medium bombers. The instrument linked optics with a mechanical computer and with the autopilot, so during the bomb run it could in effect fly the aircraft in place of the pilot. It was one of the most strictly guarded pieces of equipment of its day and crews handled it under special regulations. On a model its characteristic shape is recognizable at once.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry so that a primer will hold on them. Cut the casting blocks away with a fine saw under a magnifier, because they are very small castings. Resin parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the bombsight before you seat it in the nose; once the glazing is closed you will not reach it again. A dark metallic base proves itself, a dark wash into the recesses and fine drybrushing of the edges, so that the texture is not lost from a small part.
