The cockpit of a 1950s jet fighter is densely packed with round instruments and switches. The SPACE line is built for exactly this kind of interior: 3D-printed items on decal backing paper have both relief and printed color, so the dials do not have to be painted and do not vanish under a layer of paint. The set deals exclusively with the inside of the model and does not touch the outer surfaces.
The instrument panel, the side consoles and the panels around the seat. On the Sabre the cockpit is relatively roomy and the canopy is a bubble, so a large part of the interior shows when you look in from above. The items are fitted straight onto the plastic parts of the kit, ideally before the fuselage is closed up.
The F-86F-40 was a late production version with an extended wing span and a leading-edge slat, which improved behavior at low speed and on landing. This sub-version also became the basis for license production outside the United States, and a number of machines stayed in service for many years.
Sand the base flat and degrease it, so that the part seats down across its whole face. Sand away the engraved rings on the plastic panel, or a relief item will sit unevenly. With a damp sponge and a drop of dish soap moisten only the backing paper, lift the item off with tweezers and fix it with white PVA glue; it has no adhesive layer of its own. The manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue, and do not use a decal softener, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. The cockpits of jet aircraft tend to be dark, so handle any accenting with a dry brush along the edges rather than with a dark wash, which would disappear in a dark interior.
This is an add-on to a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
